Replacement conveyor belt for laser machine

Design:

Application report of the replacement conveyor belt for laser machines from Kurt Allert GmbH & Co. KG

The company Kurt Allert GmbH & Co. KG is a metalworking company based in Oberndorf am Neckar. The company is part of the globally operating Oetiker group of companies. With its knowledge and experience in the production of conveyor belts and fasteners, the company creates, among other things, replacement conveyor belts for laser machines for the processing of large format sheet metal panels (3.0 m x 1.5 m).  In 2021, SteelDesign, a metal processing company based in Dautphetal (Hesse), had to stop part of its production due to a defective conveyor belt on its laser machine. But instead of making an investment of 12,000€, with a two-week delivery time, the production manager Mr. Thomas Beilborn came across a cheaper alternative and was able to resume production in a few days. After one year in operation, we report here on SteelDesign's experience.

Mr. Beilborn we are looking forward to talking to you. But tell us, how did you come across Kurt Allert's laserbelt?
Actually through Internet research. I wanted to find an alternative in order to be able to restart the production quickly, and I came across you.

Are you satisfied with our laserbelt so far? Have there ever been any problems? If so, why?
The tape is great. The laser belt has been in use for one year. So far there have been no problems or malfunctions. Even when running backwards,
we have not had any problems. Maintenance has not been necessary so far. But we will do that in the coming weeks.

We are pleased about this positive feedback. How do you rate the replacement or retraction of the laser belt?
It was the first time I had to replace a conveyor belt The replacement kit from the Kurt Allert company fits exactly and could be retracted without any problems.

Regarding dirt on the periphery, does it get more dirt out in the positive sense?
Better than the original! The difference to the old tape is clearly noticeable. More dirt is discharged, so cleaning is only done once a month.
The dynamics and movement of the individual hinges cause the trays to come off on their own, which means more dirt is discharged. I am very pleased with the belt.

This is the significant difference from other belts. What is your assessment of the price-performance ratio?
Incomparable! The quality is perfect. Everything fits. We received the belt in just a few days and were able to resume production. Replacing it with the original company would have meant two weeks of production downtime for us and would have involved further additional costs. Thanks to the fast delivery of the belt, we were able to resume production in just a few days.

We are sure that all the business economists among our readers would like to know how much cost you were able to save by the quick replacement.
Can you put a number on it?

Well, a shutdown of our laser machine is very expensive for us. Our laser machine is a bottleneck machine. In order to meet our customers' delivery date requirements, we need high availability. So in addition to the actual downtime costs, we also focus on customer satisfaction, which is reflected in follow-up orders.

In this case, not only were the downtime costs reduced, but also the expenses for a new belt. Kurt Allert sells the laser tapes from stock.
This means the tapes can be delivered within 24 hours. In this way, the downtime for a laser machine can be significantly reduced.
Mr. Beilborn, now the crucial question. Would you recommend us to others?

Most certainly.
